Red Ribbon Week Blog #1 – Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention
Today kicks off the annual Red Ribbon Week, a campaign designed to increase awareness of the destruction caused by drugs in America, and the need for prevention and intervention efforts. For Red Ribbon Week, notMYkid will be posting prevention facts and tips daily, with each day focused on a different substance of abuse.
According to research by SAMHSA, many teens believe that prescription drugs are much safer than illegal street drugs because they are prescribed by a doctor. However, prescription drugs can be just as deadly as illicit drugs when abused. The majority of teens who abuse prescription drugs, including those in Arizona, get them from friends, family, or right out of the home. It’s important for parents, grandparents, and other family members to reduce teens’ access to these drugs. Lock up prescription drugs.
