Obinna (Obi) Uzoekwe joined the notMYkid team in June 2022 as a Prevention Specialist. He brings a unique cross-cultural perspective to the prevention program because he was born and raised in Nigeria. Obi migrated to the United States in 2016 and earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in sociology from Western New Mexico University (WNMU). While at WNMU, he held different positions in Media Services and Alumni Affairs. Obi also held an internship position with the YMCA managing a transitional housing program for adults experiencing homelessness. His experiences and training helped shape his world views and provided him with the necessary toolkit to plan and execute evidence-based programs within the community. His vision is to keep creating mental health awareness while advocating, supporting, and educating the youths. In his free time, Obi enjoys playing soccer, watching movies, taking road trips, and meditating to relieve stress. “We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” –Martin Luther King, Jr.
